These postcards began as a yearly communiqué to friends and family. I opted for postcards because they were cheaper to produce and send, yet more personal than e-mail. And because of their size, I didn't have to write much. I decided on the New Year because it lasts 365 days. That means a New Year’s greeting is never late. It also circumvents the namby-pamby "Happy Holidays" approach when sending cards to friends loyal to differing winter holidays.

Now ten years later, I have collected the first decade of cards and reprinted them for your use and bemusement. I hope to continue my yearly ritual until I run out of rhymes. One more thing: don't be ashamed to send New Year's Postcards in July -- I've done it. The important thing is that your friends hear from you in a personal, handwritten fashion. So go ahead - whatever the date - send them a New Year's Postcard.

  Happy New Year.
All the Live Long Year.
